This is an album I would've never found, had I not continued to dig through the Bandcamp metal section. The cover intrigued me & the music hits every sweet spot imaginable. Not to mention, it's very well polished in the production, which I always prefer.
"After three years of intensive work, French romantic doom metal masters ANGELLORE are now ready to lift the veil on their new magnum opus, Rien Ne Devait Mourir (nothing was meant to die). Composed of eight epic, well-varied songs for a full hour of enchanting music, this third album imposes itself as the darkest, most symphonic and ambitious work of the band to date.
Rien Ne Devait Mourir features a choir and a lot of guests playing traditional instruments (flutes, celtic harp, cello, violin, organ, grand piano…), including the oboist/keyboard player Gunnar Ben of Skálmöld fame. Deeply emotional at heart, ANGELLORE is weaving dreamy soundscapes that not only rekindle the flame of 90’s dark metal but also bring new life into the genre.
Double LP in gatefold cover, mastered for vinyl and including two bonus tracks: “Rassembler Les Cendres” and “Twilight´s Embrace” (featuring Thomas Helm from Empyrium) plus an extensive 40 pages booklet with text written by Mike Liassides (doom-metal.com), album credits, lyrics and exclusive graphic material." In paradisum
Deducant te Angeli,
In tuo adventu
Suscipiant te martyres...
Maybe I fell into despair...
I saw the gates behind the mountains glare
I gazed at the realms of deep unknown
A crescent moon above the silent snow
My dreams, as pure as one can be
Ebb of my thoughts, stream under a frozen sea
Powerless feelings imprisoned in myself
Maybe I fell into despair...
A derelict soul in a body accurst
Pitiful, weak creature
I’m lost in a lightless, desolate place
Left alone dreaming, forever dreaming...
Through the gloom I wander
Trying to deny a cold and hopeless reality
Alas, my anger is useless
And so is my own existence
I see myself walking endlessly
Amongst naked stones and ghastly trees
A dismal sun is a poor guide, as my path
Won’t end until the night
When the sullen red sun rises
I put my head between my hands and pour
Remorseful tears
Over the wreck that is now my life
Repentance comes but it’s always too late
What happened to all these years?
Time flew away in a blink
Sometimes I wonder what could have been
It’s been so rough these days
To find the strength to carry on
Enclosed in myself
I feed an ancient sadness
A burden much bigger than me
Crimson oceans I see
As blood runs from my eyes
Still I yearn for deliverance
Watching through the window
The tedious barren plains
How many complaints echoed through these lands?
I live under cobwebs and garlands black
Countless sleepless nights
Have triumphed of my will
Wounds are carved into my soul
How I wish to run, how I wish to escape
Leave away my human husk
See it crumble to dust and disappear
While my spirit flies above the smoking pyre
Finally free from unfulfilled desires
Along the trail
Above my trees
A weary light
A drowsy breeze
Inside the glade
Below the sky
When spirits skulk
A wail, a sigh
Old winter dream
The breath of past
Enthrals my soul
Smothers my tears
A shadow hauled
On brittle boughs
Within the gales
Where glimmers die...
a Wanderer, a Swamp Sprite & a lost Maiden
An anguish stirs my thoughts
Yet that won’t last in me
For I am but a ghost
No regrets left behind
Misery I endured
On my earthly path I dwell within this swamp
Fated here to stay
This dark dread haven
Where lovers drown...
And my laments will echo
In the freezing winds
I extinguished my strengths and my own being
A hole into your heart...
I yearn for more than I can feel
And then you shudder with horror!
By now, my sight grows dim
Who will be there for me
To smile and dry my tears?
I’m like a withered rose
Alone eternally
No spark within the night
Nor moonlit sky to guide my way
It’s my end
I surrender to pain
So many tears I shed on this hollow path
My scattered dreams, covered in dust
Adorned in ashes
A gloomy drizzle froze every bit of my heart
Soon I will dissolve in this forsaken realm
And I ask nothing of you, distraught wanderer
But to sprinkle my corpse with a little tear
Flowers of the spectral garden may wither and die
But your sorrow will live on, sealed within my scars
Forever
I heard her stifled cries...
What deathly pallor upon her face!
They poisoned all my nights!
Only I could hold her close to me!
Me!
I saw her in a dream
I kissed her lifeless hand...
But then she disappeared...
Within the limbs of your own hell!
When dawn whitened the heights
And night dissolved in tears
Then a red sun rose
And unveiled all the fears
He forgot his vow
Lost track of his own will
He’ll find in death his long-lost sleep
Winter was the season of her heart
Pale cold flowers lying on her grave
Her dream to pass away was her own Art
O my lovely dead, how could I save
The river of sorrow in your veins?
There was just one way to break your chains
My bleeding Lavinia
My hazy Lavinia
My blood for Lavinia
My blood for Lavinia
Looking at the grave of Lavinia
Remember the sweet light of her face
Bleeding on the grave of Lavinia
My only dream is to kiss her frozen grace
O please come back, and I’ll take away
The sadness where you’d drown - for you,
My dear...
My blood for Lavinia
I had made for her a deadly poison
I’m standing on the grave of Lavinia
She wanted a poison to leave the light
I’m crawling in the shadow of Lavinia
She wanted to be dead but still beautiful
I’m still in love with the ghost of Lavinia
Morte, morte lune, morte, morte chute
Rêve dans le noir et disparait
Douce lune
Détruis ces restes de moi
Que ma prison de roses
Sur les sentiers de lune
Garde mon spectre et mon oubli
Que la laideur du monde
Me rejette à jamais
Fane une rose en Morte-Lune

Atmospheric death/doom metal is slowly becoming one of my favourite genres and Officium Triste is on top of it. Rich and diverse, this album is a must. Telle Isla
